A systems problem at Edinburgh's ATC meant no planes could enter or leave the hub.

Flight operations have recommenced at Scotland's primary international airport following a significant technical issue at the control tower halted all operations.

Every arrival and departure were stopped due to an technical fault that occurred at about 08:30.

A number of travelers reported being stuck in aircraft on the tarmac during the disruption.

Operations Restart with Continued Disruption

A statement indicated at 10:40 that services were back online, and thanked passengers for their "cooperation and patience".

However, significant disruption are likely to continue throughout the day. Services bound for key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been axed, with numerous other services experiencing delays.

An airport representative had initially projected that a significant number of movements could be impacted.

"Travelers are urged to check directly with their airline for the current status on their individual travel plans," was the consistent advice.

Cause of the Chaos

The problem was traced to the full ground stop to an systems failure with its control tower systems vendor.

Travelers are still being urged to verify the schedule of their trip before departing to the airport as residual delays are cleared.
