Marnus Labuschagne Left Out from Australian ODI Lineup to Face India
Labuschagne finds himself omitted from the three-match ODI series facing India, with in-form Queensland colleague Matt Renshaw getting a surprise inclusion.
Recent Form Result in Exclusion
The right-hander was left out from the one-day international squad following being dismissed for one in both of his innings during the recent series against South Africa in August. The right-hander has a best innings of forty-seven in his previous ten ODI batting appearances.
Labuschagne has played 68 one-day internationals and scored 1,871 ODI runs at an average of 34.64, but will now continue to press his claims a return to the Test side ahead of the Ashes starting in Perth on November 21.
Renshaw's Return and Team Updates
Recent performances suggest of a return to form with 160 for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield this week, while Renshaw made a hundred for the Bulls in the same game against Tasmania.
The left-hander may to make his ODI debut in the forthcoming series against India after last being included in an ODI squad in 2022.
Renshaw has played 14 Test matches with the most recent appearance in India in 2023 but is also seeking a red-ball recall as Australia seek a answer to their opening batting issues.
Pace Returns and Fitness News
Fast bowler Mitchell Starc is back for the ODI series against India after being rested since excelling for Australia in the whitewash of West Indies in July.
BBL performer Mitch Owen might get his ODI debut after suffering a concussion in the build-up to Australia’s most recent 50-over series against South Africa.
Skipper Pat Cummins remains on the sidelines as he aims to recover from a spinal issue by the time to lead Australia in the first Ashes Test in November.
Team Announcement Strategy and Fixtures
Australia have announced a squad for only the first two T20s against India with the Ashes approaching, although Glenn Maxwell will miss all of the five-game T20 series due to a wrist injury suffered in New Zealand.
Mitch Marsh will lead both the ODI and T20 sides after smashing a century in the final game against New Zealand to seal a two-nil victory last week.
“We have named a squad for the ODI series and initial two matches of the T20 series as there will be player management through the later stages of the series as players get ready for the summer through domestic first-class matches,” Australia chair of selectors George Bailey said.
“The bulk of the T20 squad will remain together as it’s an important period in the preparation for the World Cup next year, however we are aiming to find equilibrium to ensure we simultaneously prepare specific players for the Test series ahead.”
Australia’s three-match ODI series against India begins on October 19 in Perth, before the rivals play five T20 internationals from October 29.
